Bioinformatics institute JKU

Bioinformatics institute of the Johannes Kepler University

The JKU group applies machine learning methods to biological and medical data. The group has developed feature selection and classification methods for high-dimensional and noisy measurements which has been relevant for common collaborative projects. JKU introduced a protocol for gene selection based in its proprietary software namely FARMS.

IMABIS foundation

IMABIS foundation, Carlos de Haya hospital

SAS (The Andalusia Health Service) represented by IMABIS/HCH coordinates an integrated network for the study of adverse reactions to drugs and allergens, having a database with more than 3000 patients including chemical, pharmacologic, immunology, genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology and epidemiology proprietary data that will allow to conduct real test of software developed by the BITLAB team.

Leibniz Rechenzentrum

Leibniz Rechenzentrum

LRZ focuses on the provisioning of visualisation and VR hardware and software. Traditional tools from the domain of genetics visualisation like ELKI or ARB are supported and also typical applications from the domain of scientific visualisation like AMIRA or COVISE are used extensively by the LRZ. These has been enhanced and fine-tuned for interconnected and huge genomic datasets in common collaborative projects.

RISC Software GmbH

RISC Software GmbH

RISC Software GmbH research is aligned with core topics of mathematics and computer science and recently has installed a private Cloud Computing environment that is available for common collaborative projects with the BITLAB team. There has also been interchange of personnel between RISC Software GmbH and the University of Málaga.

khaos

José Francisco Aldana Montes – Khaos! group

Because of their interest in the development of semantic web architectures and their relation with databases, this group was key to set the underlying ontologies of the INB platform. They were responsible of the XML implementation.

Biocomputacion

Enrique Viguera MínguezBiocomputation and molecular evolution

The experience of this group analysing sequenced genomes, and studying the functional characterization of tomatoe genes potentially involved in the defense against viral infections was key in a project aimed at selecting the strongest species.

bmbp

M. Gonzalo Claros DíazMolecular biology and plants biotechnology

The collaboration with Gonzalo Claros’ group consisted in the development of a database with an intuitive storage and analysis mechanisms of sequences. This group contributed as a data provider with case and control data. In addition, this group is able to use, evaluate and develop new bioinformatic applications. This group is a perfect bridge between computer science and biology.

Francisca Sánchez JiménezMolecular bases of cellular proliferation

This group provided his experience building elements to share the data. They contributed with biological data obtained in their research laboratory in relation with cellular proliferation, cancer, angiogenesis, and inflammatory reponses.

Biocomputation Unit (CNB)

This group in collaboration with their associated units in the Complutense and Málaga universities, as well as the University of San Pablo CEU, worked in the interface between molecular biology and computer science, developing new approaches in structural and computational biology. Additionally, in the post-genomic era, they worked in new ways to extract biological knowledge with data-mining techniques.

integromics

Integromics

Integromics is a spin-off of the University of Málaga and the National Center for Biotechnology, currently part of the Perkin-Elmer company. They provide advanced software solutions to analyze and manage genomics and proteomics data. In addition they work in the discovery of new drugs.
