The (ODISEA) Online Distance E-Learning software has been designed to provide support in educative and training activities between geographically disperse users, but maintaining the restrictions and privileges of the teachers from a classical classroom. The basic functionalities can be extended by the addition of plug-ins, like whiteboard, presentations, etc …
E-learning infrastructure is becoming the standard of fact for deploying courses and training material in several domains and to provide support in particular sceneries such as those social groups whose members have severe limitations to regularly attend the school.
The Odisea software platform has been designed for synchronous distance learning, making possible the presence of teachers in the student house, deploying the same class, in the same horary, with the same mates, through the internet. Thus the working scenery is a normal student room, in which some students are present and some others are virtual students with interactive presence that allows to participate, being interrogated by the professor, and maintaining a fluid communication with partners. Several important technical aspects has been solved using public domain components: web-browsers, blackboards, on-line messaging –chats, forums-, and real time sound delivery. All these components have been integrated in a user friendly environment with database history record of use and interface customisation for different age-levels. The participation of learners, psychologist, computer-science technicians and teachers has allowed a very simple but powerful way to extend the educational circuit.
